Know Your Rights: Consumer Health Coverage Info

This fact sheet aims to provide families with an overview of how to access CCS services for their children during the pandemic. Produced by the National Health Law Program (NHeLP) and Family Voices of California, this guide will inform families about the availability of in-person and telehealth services, special authorization rules during the pandemic, and more. The COVID-19 Public Health Emergency (PHE) has changed access to Medi-Cal in many ways: from expanding eligibility to how to access services. This addendum was last updated in August 2021 and addresses changes to Medi-Cal coverage, benefits, and the needs of beneficiaries during the PHE. Continue accessing medically necessary care and resources through California Children’s Services (CCS) during the COVID-19 Public Health Emergency (PHE). The Department of Health Care Services (DHCS) has put temporary flexibilities in place for both Medi-Cal and CCS, to ensure children get services quickly and safely during the PHE. The new COVID-19 Uninsured Group program was implemented by the Department of Health Care Services (DHCS) on August 28, 2020, and covers COVID-19 diagnostic testing, testing-related services, and treatment services, including hospitalization and all medically necessary care, at no cost to the individual, for up to 12 months or the end of the public health emergency, whichever comes first.
