No health insurance? California will help, but you’ll pay if you’re not covered

With Open Enrollment starting last week, middle income health consumers in California will start reaping the benefits of new state policies to increase affordability among Covered California plans. These policies include a state-based individual mandate expected to increase enrollment and state subsidies for low- and middle-income families enrolled.

Starting Jan. 1, California will become the first state to offer subsidies to middle-income people who earn too much to qualify for the federal tax credits that help consumers buy health coverage through Covered California, the state’s Affordable Care Act insurance exchange.”
