Why some Medi-Cal patients can’t go to UC Davis Medical Center

Although University of California hospitals are public hospitals, some of them are not accepting Medi-Cal patients because the hospitals are not part of Medi-Cal managed care networks. Yesterday, HCA members spoke out against this practice in Sacramento County:

“My biggest concern is that UC Davis, regionally, is one of the best hospitals, I mean, it is nationally recognized. And it’s only providing care, right now, to people who can afford to pay,” Amy Williams with Legal Services of Northern California said. “We have a major access problem with Sacramento’s poor being able to get primary care services. And when you have one of the largest, best hospitals not participating at all — it just makes it worse.”
