Whole Person Care Pilots and Interim Care Programs: County Hospitals Seek Alternatives to ‘Patient Dumping’.

In an effort to address and tackle the practice of ‘Patient Dumping’ and develop support for county hospitals, California will launch the Whole Person Care Program (WPCP) expanding the reach of several medical respite programs to better serve the needs of patients experiencing homelessness. Capital Public Radio highlights the role that “interim care programs” can play in providing a smooth path from hospital discharge for people who are homeless.

The article notes that interim care programs “give homeless people a warm, clean place to recover from illness or injury. Residents also get connected to follow-up medical care, legal aid, food assistance and other social services while applying for permanent housing.”
