California Lawmakers Seek Reparations For People Sterilized By The State

A bill in the state legislature seeks to establish a program offering compensation to survivors effected by egregious state-sponsored sterilization policies enacted from1909 to 1979.

Researchers and advocacy groups estimate that roughly 800 survivors may still be alive today in California, although none have publicly come forward, whether because they’re ashamed of what happened to them, or they just don’t realize they were victims.
