Call our&nbsp;<strong>toll-free hotline at&nbsp;<a href=\"tel:18888043536\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">888\u2011804\u20113536<\/a><\/strong>&nbsp;<strong>(TTY 877\u2011735\u20112929) for a free, confidential consultation.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>How do I get the MPX\/Mpox vaccine? Do I have to pay?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As of early August 2022, California received from the federal government <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdph.ca.gov\/Programs\/CID\/DCDC\/Pages\/Monkeypox-Vaccines.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">a supply of <\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdph.ca.gov\/Programs\/CID\/DCDC\/Pages\/Monkeypox-Vaccines.aspx\">JYNNEOS<\/a> (also known as Imvamune or Imvanex) vaccines. Local public health agencies are responsible for providing them to people. Contact your healthcare provider or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdph.ca.gov\/pages\/localhealthservicesandoffices.aspx#\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">your local public health agency<\/a> for more information on how to get a vaccine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/mcweb.apps.prd.cammis.medi-cal.ca.gov\/news\/31823_11\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Update<\/a><\/strong>: Since the Mpox public health emergency ended on January&nbsp;31,&nbsp;2023, effective February&nbsp;1,&nbsp;2023, DHCS <strong>will reimburse the Mpox vaccine <\/strong>administration at the Medi-Cal Fee-For-Service rate currently in effect. If your Medi-Cal provider asks you to pay for the vaccine, tell them to <a href=\"https:\/\/mcweb.apps.prd.cammis.medi-cal.ca.gov\/news\/31823_11\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>bill Medi-Cal<\/strong><\/a> and <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">not<\/span> charge you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>How do I get MPX\/Mpox testing? Do I have to pay?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Local public health agencies are coordinating MPX\/Mpox testing. Contact your health care provider or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdph.ca.gov\/pages\/localhealthservicesandoffices.aspx#\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">your local public health agency<\/a> for more information on how to get tested.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Medi-Cal will pay for MPX\/Mpox testing. So will <a href=\"https:\/\/files.medi-cal.ca.gov\/pubsdoco\/newsroom\/newsroom_31823_13.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Family PACT<\/a>. Most <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dmhc.ca.gov\/LinkClick.aspx?fileticket=eO956Y_NAoE%3d&amp;portalid=0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">California health plans<\/a> must also cover testing for free.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>How do I get MPX\/Mpox treatment? Do I have to pay?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Contact your health care provider or health care plan. Treatment for MPX\/Mpox should be covered as a medically necessary service. If your health plan denies coverage, you get a bill, or you have to pay &#8212; contact the<a href=\"https:\/\/healthconsumer.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"> Health Consumer Alliance<\/a> for free help at <strong><a href=\"tel:18888043536\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">888\u2011804\u20113536<\/a><\/strong>&nbsp;<strong>(TTY 877\u2011735\u20112929)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Note: <\/strong>Tecovirimat (also known as TPOXX or ST-246) is available to treat MPX\/Mpox under <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/poxvirus\/monkeypox\/clinicians\/Tecovirimat.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">special federal rules<\/a>. You might get this treatment for MPX\/Mpox if you have a severe disease, are at high risk of severe disease, or have infections in places on your body where MPX\/Mpox might cause problems. Talk with your medical provider for more information.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Why is there a public health emergency for MPX\/Mpox?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/aspr.hhs.gov\/legal\/PHE\/Pages\/monkeypox-4Aug22.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">federal government declared<\/a> a public health emergency for MPX\/Mpox on August 4, 2022, and it expired on February 1, 2023. California <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.ca.gov\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/8.1.22-Monkeypox-SOE-signed.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">declared a state of emergency<\/a> for MPX\/Mpox on August 1, 2022, that expired on February 1, 2023. These declarations allowed the federal and state governments to work quickly to provide testing, vaccines, and treatment for MPX\/Mpox.
