But barriers to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bettzedek.org\/download\/10092\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">In-Home Supportive Services<\/a> (IHSS) Program and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.disabilityrightsca.org\/publications\/medi-cal-programs-to-help-you-stay-in-your-own-home-or-leave-a-nursing-home\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Medi-Cal waiver<\/a> eligibility are making it hard for some. <br>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/california\/story\/2019-09-01\/stanford-disabled-student-afford-care\">LA Times<\/a> recently highlighted one student&#8217;s story: To move out of her family home and into a dorm, her doctor determined she would need at least 18 hours of personal assistance each day to help with the tasks typically done by her mother. As she researched options, Colt-Lacayo came to a startling conclusion: Despite the scholarship, her family wouldn\u2019t be able to afford the caregiver hours she would need to live on campus.
